The Servant of God R F C Mascarenhas, the Founder of Bethany, being a zealous and compassionate pastor had a foresight of the Synodal Church in his time and was obsessed with the desire of preaching the good news including everyone, excluding none. Bethany Sisters gripped by his passion for strengthening the faith of the people are deeply committed. Today every effort is made to recapture the pastoral vision and rekindle the pastoral zeal of the Founder. Bethany is commissioned to listen, journey and reflect together with the people of God.
Pastoral ministry in the Northern Province is vibrantly carried on in the Parishes, Schools, Communities, Hostel and Social work centres. Every member of the community is actively involved in the apostolate of pastoral care in their respective ministries. Though the catholic community in some of the centres is small or no catholic presence at all, yet the sisters work with the same enthusiasm and zeal in the mission they are entrusted with. The pastoral work is well organised through the superiors, province core committee members and Local coordinators of each community.
The sisters carry on the Pastoral work in 20 Centres for 5,402 families with a total catholic population of 17,038 in 57 subcentres. The SCC groups are 96, hostel children are 250, BLA members 234, Mahila Sangh 297 Youth 780, members in Men’s group 622 and Bethany Champions, Bethany Buds and Bethany Blossoms-are nearly 200. Out of 154 sisters in the province about 90 of them teach catechism for various categories of people.
