Sr Flavita BS of the Sacred Hearts

Sister Flavita BS, nee Mary Teressa D’Souza (83) of The Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, passed away on 12 February 2026 at 6.50pm. Sr Flavita is the daughter of Late Mr Sylvester D’Souza and Mrs Gertrude Fernandes and hails from Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, Mangalore. She grew up in the loving company of a brother and 4 sisters. 

She had her Primary Education in Parish School, Derebail, Mangalore. She passed SSLC from Basant Girls High School, Mangalore and completed her Teacher’s Training from Rosa Mystica Basic training School, Kinnikambla and graduation from Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Her goal in life was to serve the Lord and His people through Education and Pastoral ministry. She had special concern for poor and needy. She worked as a teacher, Primary Headmistress, School Coordinator in various schools. She was hardworking and dedicated in her given responsibilities and fulfilled them to the best of her abilities even in her advanced age.  She touched and moulded many lives of the students and made a difference in the society. She has served at Gadag in Karnataka, Sultanpur and Naini in UP, Paradip, in Odisha, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Ramdas and Barnala in Punjab, Solan in Himachal Pradesh, Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, Prayer ministry in Bethany Mother House, Mangalore, Pakhal and St Theresa’s Karnal in Haryana.

Sr Flavita was spiritual and prayerful. Her fidelity to her consecrated life was remarkable and inspiring to all those who lived with her. She was a great devotee of our Blessed Mother Mary and Rosary was her constant companion. She was loving, humane and compassionate towards the poor and needy.

At 5.30 pm Sr Flavita attended Holy Rosary and Holy Eucharist in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, Karnal, Haryana and received communion. As she was returning from the Church to the Convent she suddenly collapsed near the Convent. She was immediately shifted to Amrit Dhara Hospital, Karnal and at 6.50 she passed away. Her funeral rites will be held at Immaculate Heart Church, Karnal on 13 February 2026 at 4.00 pm.

I extend my sincere condolences to Sr Erasma, the Provincial Superior and her team and all the sisters of Northern Province, Sr Tara, the Local Superior and the members of St Theresa’s Convent, Karnal and Sr Shanti Priya, the Asst Superior General and Sr Sandhya, the General Councillor who were on their visitation at St Theresa’s Convent, Karnal.

Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace
